Less Than 1 Millimetre. BIG Difference.

Today for labs I did milling. We were suppose to cut the block of Aluminium (I think) into a dimension of 48 x 48 x 38.

I don’t know whether it was because of my lousy technique or the fly-cutter of the milling machine, but the surface after was rough and cacat-ed. The lab assistant changed one of the blades and it was a little better but still not as smooth as it should be. >.<

That wasn’t so bad. The WORST part was, I over-cut one side! It became 47.2 instead of 48 as it should be! T.T .. 47.2 MILLIMETRES!!! That’s 0.8 mm I TELL YOU!! BLAAAARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! *wails* And it just so happens that THIS particular thing we’re milling will be sent to CIAST for checking, and it’d be graded and stuff. MARKS will be deducted! Not for turning, not for other stuff BUT MILLING!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Just my luck.. *sniff*

Labs is fun, but the part where you lose marks for screwing up and getting no second chances (the lab assistant won’t give us another block to start over), not so fun at all. :( Sigh. I just suck at hands on stuff.

Should I continue doing this course? I’m beginning to like the lectures though… >.< Choices, choices, choices.

  1. No one is good in everything in the beginning. You just need time and practice. So if you really do enjoy what you’re doing now don’t let a comparatively small setback daunt you. :)

  2. Sigh. But we only do milling once. >.
